
The Firefox context menu hides the Maps menu. Preventing scripts from overriding your context menu in Firefox This way, Google can display their custom context menu layer. In the Firefox and Internet Explorer default settings, Google Maps is allowed to suppress the browser context menu when you right-click the page. (On the Mac, click Firefox Preferences instead of Tools Options.) In Firefox, for instance, this is achieved by unchecking the "Disable or replace context menus" box in Tools Options Content, then clicking the Advanced button to the right of "Enable JavaScript," as shown in Figure 11-33. In that case, your browser may allow you to prevent web sites from overriding the browser's native context menu. Not just in Google Maps, but also other Google applications, like Google Docs.

However, sometimes you may want to keep the browser context menu. The browser context menu is instead disabled by Google. This context menu, showing entries like "Directions from here" or "Zoom in," is served by the web app-and not the browser. Get the best of both worlds by displaying Google Maps' context menu as well as your web browser's context menu-but only one at a time, as needed.īy default, when you right-click a Google Maps area in popular browsers, you will see a context menu pop up, as shown in Figure 11-32.
